Local Search Optimization is a technique used to help local businesses take advantage of map-based services and search terms, like Google Maps, Apple Maps, Bing Maps, as well as other third-party review and local citation sites.

Ranking your business in these services is highly important – and even more so if you only work with a specific radius from your business, or have a physical location customers visit you at – such as a restaurant or a brick and mortar store.

Local SEO depends on a mix of signals from your website, as well as all of the other third-party sites that list have your Business Name, Address, and Place (N.A.P.) as well as reviews, testimonials, etc.  Cumulatively, the signals these listings send Google’s algorithm help play a part in where your Google My Business profile ranks in the map pack.

Local SEO refers primarily to two types of traffic: that coming from your listing in the “map pack” (ie your Google MyBusiness Listing), as well as how well you rank organically for local keyword terms.  Think of search terms such as “restaurant near me” or “handyman in Philadelphia”.  

For your website to show up in either of those types of local results, you need to make sure that your website, as well as a huge number of third-party websites all send the same message: this is our business name, this is our business address, and this is our business phone number.

These three pieces of information (known as NAP) must be identical across all of your local citations and third-party listings and helps play a huge role in your local SEO.  Generally – a full local SEO campaign would be utilizing the following techniques:

Google MyBusiness Verification & Optimization

This is going to be one of your main local SEO hubs and each location you have needs a separate listing.  The bulk of our local SEO work is aiming to get this listing ranked within Google’s “Map Pack” which are the local results that appear overlaid on GoogleMaps and in search.

Local Citations and Listings

Local citations refer to third party websites that also list your NAP information – the sites you’ll want to focus your time building profiles on do change with your industry and location – but larger players here include site’s like Yelp, Citysearch, Clutch.co, and the like.  Information across these sites should be completely identical to that on your Google MyBusiness profile.

Reviews & Testimonials
